The Residence Villa Bottacin
Surrounded by relaxation and history
The villa of Nicolò Bottacin (Vicenza 1805 - Padua 1876) was built in 1854 based on a design by the architect from Ticino, G. Bernardi.
Bottacin was accepted in the circle of the cultural élite of Trieste thanks to his reputation of collector, botanical expert and to his many prestigious offices. He was a friend of the Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg, residing in the Miramare Castle, who often enjoyed to take “a ride to the Villa”.
The Villa, nowadays protected by the Government Department responsible for monuments and other treasures, is characterized by an eclectic style, in which Scottish influences are integrated with Italian elements, battlements, balconies, terraces, and a small three-floor octagonal tower.
It was once surrounded by a wonderful park which can be seen in the watercolour paintings by Albert Rieger, exhibited at the "Museo Bottacin" of Padua. The museum also hosts sculptures, paintings and other art objects bought or commissioned by Bottacin to furnish his Villa, in addition to one of the most important coin collections in the world.
In 2004 the Villa underwent a careful restoration which converted it into a residence. It is still surrounded by a part of the original park, one area of which is used as parking lot.
The outdoor swimming pool has been open since 2006, during summertime.
The garden and swimming pool
The Residence Villa Bottacin is surrounded by a large garden, with lots of trees and plants and rich of flowers during spring and summer. A part of it is used as a parking lot for our guests’ cars.
In front of the Villa there is the beautiful outdoor swimming pool with heated water, available from May/June to September/October. Surrounding the swimming pool there is a relaxation area with beach loungers and deck-chairs to enjoy the sun or relax reading a good book under the shade of a tree. The swimming pool is open all day long and lighted in the evening; bathing is allowed even after dusk to enjoy the fresh air of summer evenings. The swimming pool means enjoyment and leisure for adults and children, but also offers an occasion to rest and regain energy after a long day of work.
In front of the entrance of the Villa there is a large terrace where a buffet breakfast is served during summer mornings.
